Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers
loves to compete. You would assume that being on Team USA is a bit more
relaxing for the accomplished star, but something tells me that Kobe
still wants to win and is not going to put up with teammates that slack
off on the court. In addition to rings and many individual NBA awards,
Bryant already has a gold medal from the 2008 Olympics. Is that enough?
Absolutely not. Will he be disappointed if Team does not get a gold
medal in 2012? Yes.
A different venue
This is essentially an All-Star team that is taking their talents on
the road. Granted, these are not necessarily the very best players in
the NBA, but this is a group of guys who are stars in the Association.
However, this is a different venue than the NBA All-Star Game, which is
essentially an over-produced defense-free exhibition. Here, there is a
theme of national identity, and while not all of the players may grasp
the importance of representing their country, this is about pride.
